Week Seven: Microblogging

I can see how superbusy, on the go folks would love using Twitter. Especially those in the Library field who need to keep in fairly constant contact with their colleagues. Who knows, it could become as important to me as Facebook has, although I enjoy reading everyone else’s Tweets and don’t seem to want to add anything.

Week Six: Tagging and Social Bookmarking

Don’t know if I’ll ever get caught up. I’ll give it my best shot. So, Week 6 and I’ve created a Delicious account dedicated to one of my favorite things to search for on the web…castles of the U.K. I’m fascinated with anything to do with traveling to England, Wales or Scotland. Doesn’t look like that will ever happen to me, but a girl can dream, right?

Having the Delicious account will be a handy place to bookmark my favorite sites and perhaps will gain some new sites as I check out what other castle fanatics bookmark.

Week 5 – RSS and Feed Readers

(Only 3 weeks behind, hope I can catch up now that basketball is almost over) Since I have a gmail account already, I decided to use the Google Reader option. The feeds that I have on it so far are news and weather links like WIBW, CNN, the Early Show and the Weather Channel.

I’m going to try to come back to this and do option #1 & #3 also.

Week 3 Online Meetings

Ok, at first this didn’t seem like a very interesting week’s topic. WOW !  I was wrong, again..(happens all the time) The session I listened to was ALSC Student Session: “Marketing Your Library on the Web” Presented by Jill Bickford and Marcella Whitelam from the West Brookfield Library on November 10, 2009.

When I come back in this afternoon, I’m going to try to set up a Facebook page for the library. At the very least I need to add a link to Facebook on the W.P.L. website. If only I didn’t have that other job to go to, I could get a lot more done here! :)

More later~

Week 2 Online Communities

I have had a facebook account for a few months, now and I love it

My thoughts, at first, were to use facebook in the library

as a group read tool. For instance my friends and I decide to

read the same book. We then post questions or make comments on

a facebook page dedicated to discussing that book.

Anyone have any suggestions about a group-read page?

Summer Reading 2010

I have already booked entertainment for our first week of Summer Reading. It will be Kevin Horner from Bonner Springs. Has anyone else had him at their library? He will be here June 3rd at 10:00 am. If you are interested in getting him for that day, let me know and I’ll hook you up with him.

Week One: Blogging

Hey everyone,

I’m excited to get started with the 23Things Kansas. My library (Wetmore Public Library) already has a wordpress blog and I’ve been needing to work on it for a long time. I’m hoping to get lots of tips to make it a better site.
